If my student must be absent, what is the absence procedure?

Successful completion of course work is two fold: the student must meet academic standards and exhibit consistent attendance. Consistent attendance is defined as fewer than five absences in any class during a semester. However, if a student is absent, parents are encouraged to call in, but should realize that a phone call does not absolve the student of the responsibility to make up the absence once the absences exceed five. We encourage parents to reinforce with their student the importance of attending all of their classes. There is no substitution for actual classroom attendance. Lectures, exercises, academic activities, tests, student discussions, media presentations, lab work, and teacher assistance are each vital to academic success and learning. To see a full list of excused and unexcused absences, please review the student handbook.

What is the "Learning Center"?

The Learning Center is an alternate means of earning high school credit. Students may take classes to supplement the work they are doing on their home campus. Students who are not attending school may take courses to complete diploma requirements. The Learning Center is an open entry/open exit program. The program strives to motivate students to succeed and encourages them to complete high school graduation requirements. Students who decide to work for credit through the Learning Center may enroll at any time. The work for each course is given to the student in a packet. Much of the work can be completed independently at home, although some assignments and all tests are taken at the Learning Center. Students are welcome to come to the Learning Center for assistance or to work on their course(s).
